DR KIAH THE KANGAROO
Dr Kiah is NCACCH’s deadly Children’s Health Mascot.
She is passionate about teaching our young mob how to be healthy so they can grow up strong in body and culture.
Dr Kiah was launched on 11th May 2019 at the annual NCACCH Well Persons Health Check Day and has absolutely loved getting out and about in community ever since!
Make sure you look out for Dr Kiah when you attend our local cultural events and celebrations!
Dr Kiah History
The Dr Kiah character came from the imagination of 12 year old (at the time) Kiah Thompson.
In October 2018 NCACCH conducted a region-wide competition open to all Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children of primary school age. The competition challenged these kids to create a character who they believed could teach other kids about how to be healthy. After over 80 entries were received, a rigorous judging panel including Traditional Owners, Child and Youth stakeholders, and NCACCH staff had unanimously picked “Dr Kiah” as the winner.
